Having recently purchased a chalet in the French Alps, our client wanted to create the perfect entertaining space to host friends and family. We installed a state-of-the-art cinema, distributed audio system and a custom built DJ booth.
There was a windowless room in the basement of the chalet that had previously been used as a gym. Although an awkward shape, we were able to create a truly stunning cinema. From the Buster + Punch lighting, to the wood panelling, bespoke GIK Acoustics acoustic art panels and starscape ceiling, everything was carefully considered in order to create the perfect room for the client.
We installed a 100″ projector screen and to handle the 7.1 audio channels, we used the hand built Paradigm Pro series speakers. We installed a Kaleidescape movie server to store all of the client’s uncompressed HDR films and TV shows. The Kaleidescape suite of products preserves the full fidelity of their material and offers a bitrate 4x greater than other streaming services. This allows our clients to get the most out of their cinemas without the need for physical media like DVDs and Blu-Rays. The other benefit is that our client is able to have up to 5 Kaleidescape units, that mirror one another; so a film downloaded in London is instantly available in the chalet.
A single RTi remote was programmed to control all the equipment in the cinema, including the Lutron lighting system. At the push of a button the film plays and the lights automatically dim to a predetermined level. Another unique feature we integrated was a weather button, so our client and his guests can quickly check whether it is snowing and if it’s time to get out on the slopes.
Our client is a keen DJ and wanted a setup that, by day, would be subtle and in keeping with the aesthetic of the chalet, but by night, would transform into the ultimate entertainment area. The amplifier we opted for was the award winning Marnatz Model 30 and the speakers are a pair of Kef R5s. This combination makes for jaw dropping results. Whether the client wants to stream something to the speakers or break out the Pioneer CDJs; they can enjoy audiophile levels of audio.
